Boxing champ speaks to United Fund
Former light heavyweight boxing champion Archie Moore urged officials of the Butler County United Fund to give all of themselves to their community projects at a talk on April 27, 1970.
He said the agencies supported by the United Fund were geared to providing special service to the community and each was worthy of support.
“If we give of what we have ourselves, we can’t miss,” Moore said. “This is a time when we need to stand together more than ever before in history.”
At the time, Moore had been heading up a youth program that aimed to educate young people. He told the members of the United Fund that they should focus on young people and their ideas.
“Our young people today have the finest minds and a sense of awareness, and we must respect them and listen,” Moore said.
