Tornado too much for Rams

Butler had little trouble topping Pine-Richland in boys volleyball action Thursday, sweeping the Rams by scores of 25-11, 25-12 and 25-21.

Max Gianneski dropped 14 kills on P-R, Alex Moncello had 32 assists and Andrew Archer served up three aces.

Adam Kaufman added 18 digs for the Golden Tornado (7-3, 4-2), who will compete in the Upper St. Clair tournament this weekend.

Seneca Valley 3, Fox Chapel 0 — The Raiders swept the Foxes by scores of 25-17, 25-18 and 25-16.

Grant Hoover tallied 13 kills and Steven Mazur 13 assists for SV (7-2, 5-2).

Peter Breski added 11 assists and Matt DeGraaf five blocks in the win.

North Hills 6, Knoch 5 — The host Indians plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn this non-section victory.

Knoch led 3-0 entering the bottom of the third before North Hills scored a pair in that frame and two more in the fifth to cut its deficit to 5-4.

Brady Wozniak, Jacob Stallsmith and Ryan McCurdy each had two hits for Knoch (3-10).

Track and Field

Daniella Farkas came in first place in both hurdle events and contributed to a pair of relay victories as Union/A-C Valley’s girls defeated Clarion-Limestone, 96-49, on Wednesday.

JP Blauser paced the Falcon Knights in the boys meet, taking the 300 hurdles, long jump and aiding the 4x800 relay win in a 111-37 victory over C-L.

Both Knoch teams picked up a pair of wins Wednesday against Springdale and Burrell.

The girls defeated the Dynamos (146-3) and the Bucs (97-53).

Knoch’s boys beat Springdale (116-16) and Burrell (91-59). No other details were provided.

Boys Tennis

Butler earned a 5-0 sweep of Knoch, including wins from the doubles teams of Thomas Sheptak/Ryan Conaway and Wyatt Morgus/Patryk Lyon.

Softball

Lindsay Edwards belted two doubles and drove in two runs while Madi Gardner singled, doubled and had one RBI to lead Knoch to a 7-4 section victory over visiting Indiana.

The result lands Knoch (5-5, 4-0) in first place in Section 1-4A.

Marlee Fraser struck out six in the complete-game win for the Knights.

Redbank Valley 4, A-C Valley/Union 0 — Bulldog pitcher Mackenzie Foringer kept the Falcon Knights off the scoreboard, allowing just four hits and striking out eight.

Mackenzie Parks doubled twice for A-C Valley/Union (6-4).
