Cody Williams led off the top of the seventh inning with a single to account for the Gremlins' lone hit.

Saxon Parker pitched well in defeat, striking out three, walking one and surrendering two runs on five hits for KC (9-7).

SLIPPER YROCK— The Slippery Rock University athletic department will receive a pair of Diversity in Athletic Awards during a June 11 ceremony in Dallas.SRU is being recognized in the categories of Overall Excellence in Diversity and African-American Graduation: Male Student Athletes and Gender Diversity.The ceremony will be part of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics convention.

GREENVILLE — Butler graduate Kate DeGeorge, a Thiel College junior and member of the Tomcats women's track and field team, is running for a pair of relay teams at this weekend's NCAADivision IIINational Championships at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.Thiel's 400-meter relay team qualified with a time of 48.02 seconds. The 1,600-meter relay team qualified with a provisional time of 3:55.06. The 400 team was the first relay squad to qualify for nationals in Thiel history.

WALNUT, Calif. — Mars graduate Brad Mueller, an all-America sprinter at Slippery Rock University, earned a berth in the NCAADivision II100-meter finals.Mueller recorded the seventh-fastest time during Thursday's qualifying, running the event in 10.54 seconds. He was 0.16 seconds off the pace set by St. Augustine's Dennis Boone.The finals will be run Saturday. Mueller is the reigning 60-meter indoor national champion.SRU teammate Pat Reagan placed 13th in the 10,000 meters with a time of 30:38.20. He is bidding for a berth in Saturday's 5,000-meter finals.SRUjavelin thrower Nate Hardic will see action in Saturday's finals as well.On the women's side, Nicole Blaesser set a Rock record with an eighth-place time of 35:53.79 in the 10,000 meters Thursday. That finish earned her all-America status.SRU's Whitney Hendershot will compete in the high jump finals Saturday. Jen Harpp is trying to qualify for Saturday's 5,000-meter finals.
