Students walk to fight suicide

Students from Slippery Rock University will join students at schools across the country to walk to draw attention to suicide prevention.

The Slippery Rock University Out of the Darkness Campus Walk, hosted by the Western Pennsylvania Chapter, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 23, at the university. The walk supports the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s education and support programs. Its goal is to reduce the annual U.S. rate of suicide by 20% by 2025.

The SRU walk is one of more than 550 Out of the Darkness Overnight, Community and Campus Walks being held nationwide this year. The walks are expected to unite more than 300,000 walkers and raise millions for suicide prevention efforts. Last year, these walks raised more than $21 million for suicide prevention.
