Mars hockey players compete in nationals
ADAMS TWP — Two Mars Area School District students competed as members of the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite Hockey teams at the recent Chipotle-USA Hockey National Championships.
Seventh-grader Brooklyn Ligda was a forward for the Penguins Elite 14U team, which took third place in the 14U Tier 1 Division with a 3-1 loss to the Detroit Little Ceasars in the semifinal round. Junior Zoey Krock was a forward on the Penguins 16U Elite team, which lost a 3-1 decision to the Mid-Fairfield Stars in the quarterfinal round.
KC graduate Sherwin gets collegiate win
HIRAM, Ohio — Karns City graduate Cole Sherwin picked up his first collegiate baseball win on the mound Thursday as Thiel defeated Hiram, 5-3, in a non-conference road game.
Sherwin struck out three and allowed two runs in six innings.
Union grad Weaver sets Thiel record
GROVE CITY — Union graduate and Thiel College senior Quintin Weaver set a school record in the men’s 800 meters Wednesday at the Grove City Invitational.
Weaver ran the 800 in 1 minute, 56.65 seconds, breaking the previous record that stood since 1996. This was also the fourth time this season Weaver has either been part of a team that broke a record, or broke one by himself.
