7:53 p.m. Tuesday — Shawn Wirt, 36, of Butler was arrested after he allegedly broke into a home on Pollard Avenue. The residents there told police that they caught the suspect inside their house and forced him out before calling authorities.Police suspect Wirt got into the house through the unlocked front door.By the time police got there, Wirt was gone, but officers caught him two blocks away. A search turned up suspected Suboxone, a drug used to treat opioid addiction.He was placed in the Butler County Prison to await arraignment this morning on charges of burglary, attempted theft and possession of a controlled substance.
Tuesday — Police warned residents to be aware of scams after someone in the township recently was conned out of $1,400.The resident, who police did not identify, received a telephone call from out of the country. The caller told the victim that a relative was in jail and needed money to get bailed out. The resident was told to send the money by Western Union, and compiled.
Friday — A hit-and-run driver struck a Sharon man's parked vehicle at Forker Field. The victim told police he parked his vehicle on the visitor's side of the field when he found out that it was hit on the passenger side.Police said white paint transfer was left on the victim's vehicle. Anyone with information about the hit-and run is asked to call police at 724-458-7925.Butler County DUI Task ForceSunday — Four people were arrested for driving under the influence during roving DUI patrols throughout the county between Saturday night and Sunday morning.Officers stopped 67 vehicles. In addition to the DUI arrests, two people each were arrested for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.Additionally, police handed out 14 traffic tickets.
12:47 p.m. Tuesday — A woman and two young children were injured in a one-vehicle rollover wreck in North Buffalo Township. The crash happened when Margaret E. Bosworth, 36, of Elderton lost control of her car and hit a guardrail along Route 28 about a mile and a half north of exit 18.The car rode the guardrail for about 12 feet before rolling over and traveling another 36 feet. Bosworth was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.Helicopters also flew Bosworth's passengers, a 5-year-old boy and an 8-month-old boy, to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh.A police report described all the injuries in the crash as minor. Bosworth was not wearing a seat belt. The older was not belted or in a child seat. The younger boy was in a safety seat.Bosworth faces tickets for having worth tires, two restraint system violations and a lane violation.
