Robert F. Tortorea, 87, of Butler, formerly of Lawrenceville, passed away Monday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice after an illness.

Born May 3, 1924, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Tortorea.

He retired from American Bridge as a blueprint draftsman after 32 years.

Bob served in the U.S. Army, 35th Infantry in World War II. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 214 in Lawrenceville. He also was a member of the AARP.

Before his illness, Bob was an avid fisherman, bowler and dancer. He enjoyed big band music and playing his harmonica, especially “Happy Birthday” to his family members.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Steighner Mudrick Tortorea, who he married Dec. 19, 1986; his children, Robert “Bobby” (Cindy) Tortorea of Butler, Lynne Chervenak of North Carolina, and Laverne (John) Trenz of Pittsburgh; stepchildren, Michael (Sue) Mudrick of Butler and Cindy Simpson of Lyndora; seven grandchildren, Bobbi-Lynn Tortorea of Butler, Nikki (Nate) Nehnevajsa of Cranberry Township, Jacque Tortorea of Butler, Willian “Billy” Otis of California, Rhonda Chervenak of North Carolina, and John “JJ” Trenz and Kristen Trenz of Pittsburgh; step-grandchildren, Erica Mudrick-Hoyle (Jeff) of North Carolina and David Burtner (Holly) of Middlesex Township; great-grandchildren, Sara and Braden Tortorea of Butler, and Caleb and Alexa Nehnevajsa of Cranberry Township; step-great-grandchildren Joshua Hazelwood, Seth, Jordan and Brooke Hoyle of North Carolina, and Harlan and Addison Burtner of Middlesex Township.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Audrey Martz; sons-in-law, William “Bill” Otis and Michael “Mickey” Chervenak; and a grandson, Michael “Joel” Chervenak.

<B>TORTOREA </B>— Friends of Robert F. Tortorea, who died Monday, July 4, 2011, will be received in the <B>Martin Funeral Home</B>, 429 Center Ave., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church at noon Friday. Burial will be in the St. Mary Cemetery.Members of the Bereavement Group of St. Michael the Archangel Parish will meet at the funeral home at 3 p.m. Thursday to conduct a scriptural wake service.The family requests donations be made to the Sunnyview Auxiliary or to the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.Information also is available at www.martinfh.net.
