Butler grad Leslie gets PAC honor
GROVE CITY — Butler graduate and Grove City College sophomore pitcher David Leslie has been named Presidents’ Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week.
Leslie threw a one-hit shutout in an 11-0 win over Westminster. He struick out three in his first collegiate complete game.
Cubs boxer gets Golden Gloves win
MONROEVILLE — Butler Cubs boxer Leland Anderson scored a Western Pa. Golden Gloves championship win over Matt Gebhardt of Ellwood City recently at the Monroeville Convention Center.
Fighting in the 15-16 heavyweight division, the Butler junior won by split decision.
Rocket wrestlers recognized for efforts
Slippery Rock senior Braiden Reich (215 lbs.) was named as a District 10 Region 1 first-team wrestling all-star and Rocket freshman Zac Tuberville (139 lbs.) and sophomore Klint Shamblin (189 lbs.) made the second team, it was announced Tuesday.
The honors were voted on by the region’s coaches.
Anderson breaks SRU strikeout mark
EBENSBURG — Kelsi Anderson became Slippery Rock University’s all-time career strikeout leader Monday during SRU’s softball doubleheader sweep of Pitt-Johnstown.
Anderson has 338 career strikeouts, breaking the previous record of 335 set by Shaylee Ianno in 2012. Alexsa Hurd had five hits and two home runs in the twinbill.
