City council is expected to adopt a new ordinance Thursday night that would ban exotic animals from public events.Mayor Tom Donaldson introduced the ordinance last month.People no longer will be allowed to bring snakes, spiders and animals with a poisonous bite or sting to parades and special events in the city. The motion stems from a complaint the city received this summer about people bringing snakes to downtown festivities such as the Jeep Invasion and the Cruise-A-Palooza.Donaldson said some residents are afraid of the exotic animals, and that they don't belong in the streets. He said none were seen at Saturday's Butler Fall Festival.Thursday will be the second reading and adoption of the ordinance.Violators will be fined no less than $25, no more than $300 and face a maximum imprisonment of 30 days. The major events held downtown include the Jeep Invasion, the Cruise-A-Palooza, the Butler Fall Festival, the Christmas Parade, and the Butler Road Race.
