TITUSVILLE, Crawford County — The 2008 Titusville Oil Festival will run Monday through Aug. 10 as part of the Oil 150 celebration.

"There's a lot of things to bring people to Titusville to show off what we've got here," said Ann Paden of the Titusville Chamber of Commerce.

The celebration opens with a concert in Scheide Park sponsored by the Titusville Council on the Arts. Carl Olson and Friends will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Other musical performances include the Hank Williams Tribute concert from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Titusville High School, also sponsored by the Titusville Council on the Arts and Sweet Life and local talent performing 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 10 at Scheide Park.

The Greek Ethnic Day will be Aug. 7 at Scheide Park and will feature The Greek Company band, dancing and Greek food.

The All-School Reunion will be 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 8 at Colestock Auditorium, sponsored by the Titusville Alumni Association.

The Oil Festival parade will start at 11 a.m. Aug. 9. The railroad-themed parade will travel down Main, Brown and Second streets.

"It has numerous people from around the area, from juveniles to commercial to nonprofits," Paden said.

There will be an arts and crafts show and miniature train rides around Scheide Park for children from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 9. A food court and the Kiwanis Kids Korner will be on Washington Street.

The Main Street School will host a petting zoo and agriculture education exhibit.

The 15th annual juried art show will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Main Street School.

The 2008 Oil Festival is part of a longer celebration to commemorate the discovery of oil near Titusville.

The 17-month Oil 150 celebration starts in August and will last until Dec. 31, 2009.

In 1859, Edwin L. Drake and the Seneca Oil Co. struck oil in the Venango Oil Field near Titusville. The area will mark Aug. 27, 2009, as the 150th anniversary of that discovery.
