Freeport grad Heilman Pitcher of Week

ERIE — Freeport graduate Jarrett Heilman, a junior on the Mercyhurst University baseball team, has been named PSAC West Pitcher of the Week.

Heilman tossed a complete-game 6-0 shutout win over Clarion, striking out seven. He allowed only one out and threw 78 pitches.

Moniteau’s Rottman shines for Thiel

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Moniteau graduate Abby Rottman collected a double, single and three RBI for Thiel College in a 10-6 softball victory over Washington & Jefferson over the weekend.

The victory was Thiel’s first over W&J since 2017.

Butler grad Leslie takes tough loss

WASHINGTON , Pa. — Butler graduate and Grove City College sophomore pitcher David Leslie was a hard-luck loser in the secod game of a baseball doubleheader Monday at Washington & Jefferson.

Leslie tossed a complete game, striking out five, but was on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat. It was his second straight complete game.

Seven Fields resident Luke Vittone had two hits and scored two runs in the first game, a 13-6 win for Grove City (15-6, 3-1).

SRU splits twinbill against Indiana

INDIANA — Luke Truman tossed a complete-game shutout for Slippery Rock University in the first game of a baseball doubleheader Monday at Indiana (Pa.). The Rock won the game, 5-0.

Trueman hit his third home run of the season in the nightcap, a 9-4 IUP victory.

Braden Olson had four hits in the twinbill for SRU (12-10, 2-6). Joey Purcell, Koby Bubash and Alex Robenolt collected hits in both games.

SRU hosts Ashland (Ohio) in a nine-inning game at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
