Student found dead; boyfriend charged

MILLERSVILLE — The boyfriend of a student found dead in a central Pennsylvania university dormitory room has been charged with aggravated assault.

Police said 19-year-old Gregorio Orrostieta and 18-year-old Karli Hall were in a physical altercation before her death early Sunday at Millersville University.

Police said they found Hall unresponsive around 5 a.m. while responding to a cardiac arrest call. The cause of death is under investigation. An autopsy is scheduled for today.

Hall was a freshman from Chadd’s Ford. Orrostieta, of Kennett Square, did not attend the Lancaster County university.

Orrostieta is being held in lieu of $1.5 million bail and was not available for comment.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 19.

Elderly man dies when trailer burns

PITTSBURGH — Authorities said a fire in a trailer has claimed the life of an elderly man.

Fire crews in Allegheny County said the West Deer Township residence was engulfed in flames by the time they arrived at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday.

The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office said 85-year-old Ernest Geer was pronounced dead a little more than an hour later of acute smoke and fume inhalation.

Luke Raynovich, assistant chief of West Deer Volunteer Fire Department No. 1, said the blaze likely originated in the kitchen of the trailer.

He said the cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it does not appear suspicious.
