Fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon, Dr. Scott G. Rainey has joined the Butler Memorial Hospital medical staff.

As a member of Tri Rivers Surgical Associates, Rainey is seeing patients in Tri Rivers' newest location on the Butler Health System East Campus on Oneida Valley Road.

In addition to general orthopedic services, Rainey offers treatment for a wide range of spinal conditions, including, disc herniation, spinal stenosis, compression fracture, degenerative disc disease, myelopathy and spondylolisthesis.

Rainey comes to Butler from the Texas Back Institute, where he completed an orthopedic spine fellowship and refined his skills in degenerative spinal conditions in the cervical and lumbar areas. Before his fellowship, Rainey completed his internship and orthopedic surgery residency at St. Joseph's Health Center in Warren, Ohio. He received his medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences and his bachelor's degree in biology from Missouri Southern State College. As a member of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the North American Spine Society, Rainey also took many postgraduate courses to continue his education after medical school.

WEST CHESTER, Ohio — AK Steel has announced it won a patent infringement lawsuit brought against the company by two French units of ArcelorMittal, the world's largest steel producer.The suit, heard in U.S. District Court in Delaware, alleged that AK Steel and two other steel producers have infringed upon a U.S. patent for aluminum-coated, boron-bearing carbon steels, used primarily for high-strength automotive applications.A jury, however, found the ArcelorMittal patent invalid and that no infringement had occurred, in a decision handed down Jan. 14. AK Steel said the decision will allow the company to begin offering the product for sale immediately to customers in the United States. While it has had the capability to produce the product for several years, potential customers had been concerned about the pending legal action brought by ArcelorMittal. AK Steel said the jury's finding eliminates its customers' concerns.

GIBSONIA — St. Barnabas has announced the election of two boards within the health system.• The Arbors at St. Barnabas — Larry Weiss of Scott Township is an independent insurance and legacy planner. He is the fourth member of the board. Re-elected for a one-year term were: William Spell of Marietta, Ga., chairman; Karen Tabacchi of Jefferson Township, president; state Rep. CRANBERRY TWP — Westinghouse Electric has announced two new agreements with China.The first is with China Baotou Nuclear Fuel (CBNF) to design, manufacture and install fuel fabrication equipment that will enable China to manufacture fuel for the fleet of Westinghouse AP1000® nuclear power plants now being built there.Total value of the contract is $35 million. Additional terms are not being disclosed at this time.The equipment will be sourced from Westinghouse and its suppliers in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Colorado, Michigan, South Carolina and North Carolina. It will be installed in a CBNF facility in Baotou, China.The second announcement was of a two-year extension of a nuclear cooperation agreement for deployment of the Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear power plant in China, as well as service and maintenance, technology development and strategic investment.The agreement is with China's State Nuclear Power Technology Corp., the original agreement was signed in 2008. Currently, Westinghouse and its consortium team member The Shaw Group, are providing four AP1000 units in China, two each at Sanmen and Hanyang.
