Cranberry Township was awarded a $391,212 Multimodal Transportation Fund Program grant this week for improvements to the upcoming intersection of Brandt Drive and Executive Drive.
“This is in our constant effort of planning for the future of transportation infrastructure needs in the township,” township manager Dan Santoro said. “We applied for this grant to install a traffic signal at that intersection.”
State Sen. Elder Vogel, R-47th, announced Thursday that the Cranberry project was among the more than $5 million in state funding awarded in the region.
The intersection, Santoro said, is part of a development project on Brandt Drive which broke ground in 2022.
“That roadway, Brandt Drive, is being connected between Route 19 and Executive Drive as a part of the development that’s going on there,” Santoro said. “The intersection needs a signal in the future, and this is planning for that in cooperation with the developer.”
The new intersection is expected to open this spring, according to Santoro, and will be completed and funded in cooperation with the developer.
“The township is actually building the intersection with Brandt and Executive; the developer is building the connection from the intersection,” Santoro said. “At the intersection, we’re building the first 100 feet back, and then he’s picking up from that connection all the way out to Route 19.”
Santoro said the traffic signal will cost more than $500,000 and begin installation next year. Until then, he said, it will be a stop-controlled intersection.
Seven Fields pool receives $250,000
Vogel also announced that Seven Fields has been awarded a $250,000 Local Share Account Program grant to aid ongoing renovations at Town Park Pool.
“Mayor (Dean) Galtisis and the borough council are so very grateful to be awarded $250,000 to assist in the continued upgrades to the Seven Fields Town Park Pool,” borough manager Tom Smith said.
Ongoing renovations to the pool are being made to match the borough’s recently upgraded community center. The second phase of improvements include renovations to outside restrooms, concessions, a new fence and eight decorative pillars.
The project is expected to complete for the opening of the 2023 pool season, Smith has said.
