JEFFERSON TWP — His Kids Christian School, 650 Saxonburg Road, is collecting newspapers, magazines, catalogs, mail, envelopes, folders and other papers for a fundraising recycling program.

A recycling bin is located at the school. Phone books and cardboard will not be accepted.

PROSPECT — The Prospect Area Preservation Society will present an evening with Violet Covert, author of "1858 Map of Butler County," at 7 p.m. Monday at the Prospect Library, across from Moraine Elementary School.Covert's book will be available for purchase.State police collect toys for childrenThe state police barracks in Butler and Mercer counties are each sponsoring toy drives for needy children in their counties.The state police in Butler are taking part in the Toys for Totsprogram, sponsored by the Butler Bantam Marine Detachment 743. They ask new, unwrapped toys be dropped off before Dec. 13 at the Butler barracks, 200 Barracks Road.The state police in Mercer County have partnered with Mercer County Children's Aid Society, and they ask new, unwrapped toys be dropped off before Dec. 15 at the Mercer barracks, Route 62, Jackson Center.

BUTLER TWP — Lifesteps will host free Child Check developmental screenings for children age 5 and younger from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Parker Fire Hall.Each screening takes about 30 minutes and results will be discussed with parents immediately.Appointments are recommended. JEFFERSON TWP — Concordia Lutheran Ministries will host a presentation, "Alzheimer's Disease:Current Treatments and Therapy,"at 2 p.m. Monday in the Haven II dining room, Marwood Road.Registered nurse practitioner Debi Yackuboskey will lead the program.Admission to the program is free.

SAXONBURG — The Saxonburg Annual Christmas Light Up Night and Parade will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday along Main Street and in Roebling Park.The celebration will include a parade at 7 p.m., luminaries, a live Nativity, cookies with Santa at the Saxonburg Library, live music at Roebling Park and strolling carolers.Float entries are still being sought for the parade.
