PENN TWP — The Butler County Symphony Association's Symphony Ball 2007 will be held Jan. 27 at the Butler Country Club, 310 Country Club Road.

The annual event, black tie optional, benefits the Butler County Symphony Orchestra.

The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a cash bar and hors d'oeuvres, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and dancing to the Vince Tavolario Trio from 8:30 until 11:30 p.m.

Ball co-chairpersons are Ida Findley and Mary H. Phillips. Cost is $50 per person. Tables in groups of eight to ten can be reserved.

SUMMIT TWP — St. Wendelin School will host a Scholastic Book Fair in the school library Jan. 26 through 30.The fair will be open from 12:30 to 6 p.m. Jan. 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 28 and from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and noon to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 29 and 30.The school is located at 211 St. Wendelin Rd., behind Highland Golf Course. BUTLER TWP — Lifesteps will host free Child Check developmental screenings for children age 5 and younger at the following locations:• 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, St. Peters Reformed Church, Zelienople.• 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Dutilh United Methodist Church, Cranberry Township.• 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 22, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Chicora• 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 22, Butler Public Library, Butler.Each screening takes about 30 minutes and results will be discussed with parents immediately.Appointments are recommended. HARRISVILLE — The Harrisville Volunteer Fire Department will host a square dance from 8 to 11 p.m. Jan. 20.Bob Minor will be the caller. The Country Tradition Band will play.Cost is $5. Refreshments will be available.
