Arthur Ackelson

Arthur Ackelson of Passavant Retirement Community in Zelienople celebrated his 90th birthday with a party with family and friends. Music was provided by Beth and Lyric Ackelson.

He was born Sept. 14, 1914, in Canton, Ohio. He married Lois Chickar on May 11, 1940. She is deceased. He married Elizabeth Spellen on July 2 1985. She also resides at Passavant.

He has four children, J. Michael Ackelson of Butler, Penelope Davis of Prospect, Naomi Edsell of Troy and Robert Ackelson of San Francisco. He also has nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Ackelson is retired after working for 38 years as a melter in the open hearth at Armco Steel.

He is a member of the Armco Veterans Association, a charter member of the Butler Notables and a member of the Rinky Dinks barbershop quartet.

Ackelson enjoys singing and still sings for friends and Passavant staff. He was one of the founders and organizers of the Prospect Boys Club. He was also a Boy Scout troop leader in Prospect and Fenelton. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

He is a very active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Prospect.
