Store, kennel get OK

Both are set to open up this year

CRANBERRY TWP — The township supervisors Thursday evening approved two new businesses both of which are projected to be open this year.

A new 12,063-square-foot La-Z-Boy Furniture store will be the final business in the Cranberry Crossroads development under construction on Route 228 at the former Pittsburgh North Campground.

That development includes a Dick’s Sporting Goods store, a GetGo service station and a mix of retail and office space.

Phil Bishop, representing Echo Development, told the supervisors the store will be a furniture showroom where customers would come in and view furniture. They would then order the items, which would be shipped to their homes.

There will be no storage of furniture in the store, he said.

The supervisors also approved final plans for the Fifth Avenue Fido boarding and day care dog kennel to be in the former Northgate Honda building on Route 19.

The building has been vacant for three years.

Co-owner Linda Beard, a professional dog trainer, said the 9,776-squre-foot facility is a luxury kennel where dogs will have their own rooms in a hotel-like setting.

The all-indoor facility will have a play area and rubberized floors.

The facility will offer day care and long term boarding, socialization, on site and at home dog training classes and other services.
