Affected areas include Slippery Rock, Prospect, Harrisville, Chicora, Cabot and Petrolia.
The alert warns of 60 mph winds, and penny-sized hail is possible.
According to an early-Friday morning Twitter post from the weather service, damaging wind is the primary threat. It went on to say any clouds have potential to produce a downpour and could lead to flash flooding, especially in urban and more prone areas.
