15 area SRU athletes win scholar honors

SLIPPERY ROCK — Of the 181 Slippery Rock University athletes to achieve PSAC scholar athlete status in 2007-08, 15 are from the Butler County or Grove City area.

Three of the honorees, track and field athletes Theresa Crispin and John Strutt, women's lacrosse player Ashley Macurdy, are from Butler.

Two others, football player Bill Elliott and track and field standout Sarah Reppermund, are from Knoch.

Four women's cross country and track honorees, Leslie Kramer, Brittany Lyons, Nadya Mamoozadeh and Sarah Thompson, are from Slippery Rock.

Other area honorees include women's basketball player Kara Spagnola and women's tennis player Kelly Stenger from Seneca Valley, women's track and field runner Lacey Cochran of Freeport, baseball player Billy Herman and women's cross country and track participant Emily Consbruck of Grove City.

Student athletes must achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher to achieve PSACScholar Athlete status. The 181 SRUathletes to do so this year marked a school record.
