West Sunbury man charged with strangulation, assault
A Saturday incident involving the alleged strangulation of two people and a juvenile’s head being bashed into a driveway has led to felony charges against a West Sunbury man.
State police Sunday charged Adam J. Compton, 35, with two counts of felony strangulation, felony and misdemeanor child endangerment, two counts of misdemeanor simple assault, misdemeanors terroristic threats and resisting arrest and four summary charges of harassment following the incident in the borough.
Police said they responded at 11:20 p.m. to East Church Street for an unknown disturbance. A 33-year-old woman told police she had arrived there to pick up her children when Compton pushed her into a wall an began to strangle her.
Compton also told the woman he was going to kill her, police said.
According to documents, the woman’s son attempted to pull Compton off the woman during the altercation. Compton then punched the juvenile, grabbed him by the throat and pushed him onto a bed, police said.
A 19-year-old male also tried to pull Compton off the woman, police said. Compton pushed and punched him during the altercation.
As the woman and her children ran to the driveway of the residence, police said Compton caught up with them and strangled the woman again. He then grabbed the male juvenile by his hair and slammed his face off of the driveway, according to documents.
Officers observed bruising around the woman’s neck, and the male juvenile had cuts on the right side of his face and head as well as scratches on his back.
When police confronted Compton at the address, he had to be tackled and restrained to be taken into custody, the affidavit said.
Compton was placed in Butler County prison Sunday in lieu of $50,000 bail.
He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing Feb. 21 before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
