Rocket girls 2nd at swimming regional
Slippery Rock’s girls swim team placed second at its Region Championship meet Saturday at Grove City College.
The Rockets tallied 503 points, two behind champion Titusville. Slippery Rock’s boys finished sixth as Oil City won that portion of the meet with 500.50 points.
Grace Olshanski broke meet records in the 50 (24.76 seconds) and 100-yard freestyle (55.05) for the Rocket girls. Mollie Massella did likewise in the 200 freestyle (1:59.44) and 100 butterfly (59.60). Ann-Katherine Burns swam under the meet record during her second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.54) Natalie Double won the 100 backstroke
Slippery Rock’s girls 200 medley relay (Double, Burns, Massella, Olshanski in 1:53.20) and 200 freestyle relay ((Season Grant, Burns, Double Olshanski in 1:43.07) set meet records as well.
Megan Baggetta captured the girls long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 11 inches and Butler’s boys 4x200 meter relay unit of Christopher Rubcic, Logan Ekas, Mark Klemz and David Graef won with a time of 1 minute, 35.34 seconds Saturday as the Golden Tornado wrapped up their regular season.
Butler competed in the Tri-State Track Coaches Association Meet #4 at Edinboro University. The postseason will begin this Saturday with the TSTCA Indoor Championships at the same site.
The PA Indoor State Championships are Feb. 26 at Penn State University.

Andrew Maddalon scored 21 points and Max Hurray added 17 Saturday as North Catholic won its portion of the Don Barth Classic, 66-45, over Central Catholic.
The Trojans (16-6) won their sixth straight game in closing the regular season. Central Catholic slipped to 13-9 overall. Both teams will be in the WPIAL playoffs.

Ava Walker scored 23 points, sinking four 3-pointers, as North Catholic (19-3) extended its winning streak to 13 with a 65-54 win over Oakland Catholic in the girls portion of the Don Barth Classic.
Alayna Rocco added 20 points for the Trojanettes. Oakland Catholic (19-3) had a 17-game winning streak snapped.

Carter Blystone scored a goal for Butler off an assist from Brayden Hardsock, but the Golden Tornado dropped a 4-1 decision to Greater Latrobe at Nevin Arena. The Wildcats scored three power play goals.
EJ Delaney made 34 saves for the Golden Tornado, who play Mars at 9 p.m. Monday at the Baierl Ice Complex.
