Monday — Police charged Jeremy J. Taylor, 18, of Butler in connection with the theft of thousands of dollars of merchandise from the Kmart store at Pullman Square, where the defendant worked.Audits by store officials uncovered the theft that was narrowed down to the electronics department, according to a police report, and ultimately led to Taylor as the suspect.Police said the defendant allegedly admitted that while employed at the store he took more than $3,000 of merchandise between January and July.

1:10 a.m. Sunday — Roger Hall Jr., 28, of Slippery Rock was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on North Eberhart Road.4:29 p.m. Friday — David Lee Smith Jr., 40, of Butler was arrested for allegedly stealing a gas-powered generator from the Tractor Supply store at Alameda Plaza. Police said Smith made off with the property in a vehicle.Police stopped Smith's vehicle on New Castle Road at the Route 422 West ramp. He ran from the vehicle but was caught after a brief chase. The generator was recovered.Smith was arraigned on a charge of felony retail theft, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bond.

Monday — Unknown vandals between Friday and Monday pulled a wooden bench from the ground and placed a metal picnic table on top of the monkey bars at the Slippery Rock Elementary School in Slippery Rock.11:45 p.m. Sunday — John Ray Eckert Jr., 28, of West Sunbury is accused of assaulting Dawn Eckert, 29, during a domestic dispute at a Byers Road home in Clay Township. John Eckert was arraigned on charges of simple assault, terroristic threats and harassment, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bond.Saturday — A Pentax digital camera was stolen between 10 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. in a burglary at a Watters Station Road home in Forward Township.Saturday — A coin collection was stolen between Wednesday and Saturday during a burglary at a Levis Road home in Muddy Creek Township.Friday — Women's jewelry, including earrings, rings, bracelets, watches and necklaces, was stolen in a burglary between July 14 and Friday from an Eyth Road home in Oakland Township. Also taken were antique coins and other change.Friday — About 50 feet of copper cables, a 70-foot welder extension cord, a DeWalt grinder and copper tubing were stolen between 5:30 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday in a burglary at the Chicora Block Co. on Route 68 in Donegal Township. The stolen property is valued at $1,155.9:30 p.m. July 16 — Erick Hortert, 20, of Butler is accused of illegally using the debit card of a 44-year-old Center Township woman. Police said Hortert is charged with access device fraud, theft and receiving stolen property.

6:24 a.m. July 16 — Kenneth Maxwell, 57, of Grove City was injured when the vehicle he was driving crashed into the back of a garbage truck on Cranberry Road in Pine Township, Mercer County. Maxwell, who was treated for head and facial injuries at Grove City Medical Center, was cited for not wearing a seat belt.
