PORTERSVILLE — Portersville Christian School will perform the musical "The Music Man" next week at the school, 343 E. Portersville Road.

Performances will include a senior citizen matinee at 1 p.m. Wednesday and shows for the general public at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for students. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance by calling 724-368-8787.

Written by Meredith Wilson, the play is set in the early 1900s in a small Iowa town, where a traveling salesman falls in love with the local librarian. Although the librarian recognizes him as a fraud, she falls in love with him anyway. The town also embraces the salesman after he is exposed as a fraud, yet remains to face the consequences.

The show is being produced and directed by Elaine Wise, with Bruce Smith as orchestra director. Student director is Mollie Alexander.

The elementary cast includes James Mangiapane as Winthrop, Sarah Markley as Amaryllis and Hannah Dunmire as Gracie Shinn.

Townspeople and Town Kids will be played by sixth graders Brayen Fincher, Olivia Green, Anna Osborne and Jordan Snyder; fifth graders Ryan Coomber, Calvin Dunmire, Ben Faull and Peter Wentz; fourth graders Makayla Dupont, Lily Russell, Logan Snyder and Joshua White; and third graders Amelia Adams, Micah Everett and Anna VanGent.

Members of the stage crew include Steven Koehler, Amy Thompson, Bridgette Powers, Seth Oesterling and Jacob Zeigler.
