Wreck shuts lane for over hour
PENN TWP — An SUV flipped onto its roof in a two-vehicle accident on Route 8 Tuesday morning.
The accident happened at 7:50 a.m. when Justin Pittman, 28, of Butler pulled out of the Planet Mart gas station, according to township police officer Jack Ripper.
Pittman, who was attempting to drive to Jimi Enterprises directly across the road, drove his SUV in front of a southbound car driven by Brandon Timblin, 21, of Butler, Ripper said.
Timblin hit the side of Pittman's SUV, causing the vehicle to roll onto its roof, Ripper said.
Pittman told police that another southbound vehicle was turning into the gas station at the time he was leaving and blocked his view.
Ripper said both Timblin and a passenger in Pittman's SUV, Scott Simpson, 33, of Valencia, were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
The accident caused the northbound lane of Route 8 to close for more than an hour.
All three involved were wearing seat belts.
Pittman was cited for multiple traffic violations.
The Penn Township Volunteer Fire Department and Middlesex Township Police assisted at the scene.
All units were cleared by 9:30 a.m.
