GC man, 20, accused of robbing man at knife point
GROVE CITY — A borough man was arrested after he stole money from another man at knife point Sunday evening, police said.
Nicholas Robinson, 20, was arraigned Monday on charges of robbery, terroristic threats, simple assault and theft. He is being held in the Mercer County Jail on $100,000 bail.
Grove City police said they were called shortly after 5:30 p.m. Sunday for a strong-arm robbery at a home in the 500 block of North Center Street.
The victim, a man visiting the home, told investigators Robinson showed up there demanding money from him, Grove City Police Chief Dean Osborne said.
The suspect allegedly pulled a knife and stole $83 from the victim before leaving. Both of the men reportedly knew one another.
Three others who were at the house, Osborne said, corroborated the victim’s account.
Officers searched for Robinson that night but they could not find him.
On Monday, police got word that Robinson was at the office of District Judge Neil McEwen in neighboring Pine Township.
The suspect, it turned out, had gone there to plead guilty to a summary charge that Grove City police had filed against him just three days earlier.
Borough officers in that case accused the defendant and two other young men of fighting in the 400 block of North Broad Street about 7:55 p.m. Thursday.
Along with Robinson, police cited Zachary Surrena, 19, and Brandon Young, 21, both of Grove City, with disorderly conduct.
The robbery and last week’s fight were unrelated, police said.
By the time police got to the district judge’s office, Robinson was gone. But police found him a short time later. He was arrested without incident.
Osborne said police have recovered the knife believed to have been used in the robbery. The victim’s money has not been found.
Robinson’s preliminary hearing is set for March 2 at McEwen’s office.
According to court records, meanwhile, McEwen on Monday ordered Robinson to pay $305.50 in fines and court costs following his guilty plea to disorderly conduct stemming from the fight.
