William E. Swartout, 66, of Butler passed away Monday evening at UPMC Shadyside in Pittsburgh.

Born in Butler, July 16, 1945, he was the son of the late Edward G. and Kathleen M. Casey Swartwout.

He was retired from Butler Armco, where he had worked for 37 years.

He was a devoted grandfather, and he was an avid cyclist.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne King Swartout, to whom he was married for 43 years; two sons, Thomas W. Swartout and his wife, Deanna, of Wexford and Adam M. Swartout and his wife, Beth, of Charlottesville, Va.; one brother, Robert C. Swartwout and his wife, Christine, of Butler; five sisters, Mary Stanko and her husband, Russell, of Fenelton, Cathy Streit and her husband, James, of Butler, Sally Durso and her husband, Michael, of Butler, Debby Fullerton of Sarver and Peggy Ellenberger and her husband, R. David, of Chicora; six grandchildren, Alec Swartout, Tyler Swartout, Emma Swartout, Andy Swartout, Braden Swartout and Alison Swartout.

He was preceded in death by one brother, James Swartwout, who passed away in 1974.

<B>SWARTOUT</B> — There will be no public visitation. A Mass of Christian burial for William E. Swartout, who died Monday, Aug. 8, 2011, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler. Burial will take place in Greenlawn Burial Estates.Members of the St. Paul Catholic Women and Christian Mothers will meet at the church at 9:35 a.m. Thursday to recite the rosary.The family requests memorial donations be made to the Hillman Cancer Center, 5115 Centre Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15232.Arrangements are by <B>Martin Funeral Home</B>, Butler, and information also is available at www.martinfh.net.
