Moraine hosts Winterfest
MUDDY CREEK TWP — The 5th annual Winterfest at Moraine State Park will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the McDanel’s Launch on the North Shore.
Activities include a chili cook-off, live music by Nameless in August and David Hamilton, chain saw carving, ice carving, carriage rides, a snowshoe workshop, family birding hike, ice fishing demonstration, cross-country skiing, crafts, food, and nature activities.

Children’s play goes on Sunday
JACKSON TWP — “Click, Clack, Moo,” the Theatreworks USA production hosted by the Pittsburgh International Children’s Theater, will go on at 2 p.m. Sunday at Seneca Valley Intermediate High School.
The show tells the story of Farmer Brown who hears “click clack moo, clickety clackety moo ...” because the cows are typing and the hens are on strike. Based on the Caldecott Award-wining book by Doreen Cronin with pictures by Betsy Lewin, the musical is about negotiation and compromise.
This 60-minute musical is recommended for those age 4 and older.

Winter walk planned
FORD CITY — The annual Winter Wonderland Walk, hosted by the Crooked Creek Watershed Association, will begin at 2 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Crooked Creek Environmental Learning Center, 142 Kerr Road.
After the walk, visitors can enjoy hot cider and chili. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.

Phipps shows orchids, bonsai
PITTSBURGH — The annual Orchid and Tropical Bonsai Show will open Saturday at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens.
Featuring orchids planted in garden beds and hanging baskets, the show also offers the public a chance to view the permanent collection of tropical bonsai.
Highlights will include the Barbara Tisherman Slipper Orchid collection.
The show runs through March 1 and is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and until 10 p.m. Fridays.
Admission is $15 for adults, $14 for senior citizens and students, and $11 for children ages 2 to 18.

School stages musical
PITTSBURGH — Shady Side Academy Senior School will present its winter student musical production, “Into the Woods,” Feb. 6 to 8 in the Hillman Center for Performing Arts on campus at 423 Fox Chapel Road.
Show times are 7:30 p.m. Feb. 6 and 7 and at 2 p.m. Feb. 8.

Van Gogh exhibit coming
PITTSBURGH — “Visiting Van Gogh: Still Life, Basket of Apples” will be shown March 14 to July 6 at the Carnegie Museum of Art, 4400 Forbes Ave.
In the spring of 1886, Vincent van Gogh visited Paris for an extended stay, leaving the city in early 1888. When Van Gogh encountered the color and brushwork of the Impressionists and Neo-Impressionists, something changed, and he began to paint with a new vibrancy and freshness.
