A team from St. Jude Golf Club captured the 2014 Jamison Cup Inter-Club Golf Championship, held Monday at Butler Country Club.

St. Jude finished with 616 strokes, six better than Hannastown Golf Club.

Butler Country Club was fourth with a score of 627.

Spencer Mellon and Sean Knapp both carded a 148 to top the individual standings in the 36-hole event.

Butler’s Rob Voltz shot a 153 and placed fourth.

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates will start the 2015 season on the road.Pittsburgh travels to Cincinnati to face the Reds on April 6, 2015, then heads to Milwaukee before hosting Detroit in the home opener at PNC Park on April 13. It’s the first time in club history the Pirates will face an American League team in the home opener.Pittsburgh wraps up 2015 season with a six-game homestand against the St. Louis Cardinals and Reds. The 2015 regular season ends on Sunday, Oct. 4.The Pirates also host the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox in interleague play. Pittsburgh has been one of major league baseball’s best home teams in recent years and is 44-28 at PNC Park this season, tied for the second-best home record in the National League.

The Butler County Community College women’s volleyball team pushed its record to 5-2 with a sweep of Point Park’s junior varsity squad.The win came by scores of 25-9, 25-19 and 25-13.Heather Straynick led the way with 12 kills and seven digs.Amanda Wensel added eight kills, Danika Durand 22 assists and Alexis Schrecengost eight digs and five aces.

DALLAS — SMU coach June Jones resigned Monday only two games into his seventh season at the school, citing unspecified personal reasons for the decision.The resignation, effective immediately, came after the Mustangs scored only one touchdown while losing their first two games this season.The 61-year-old Jones, who was 36-43 at SMU after nine seasons at Hawaii, didn't elaborate on what those personal issues were. The former NFL coach didn't return a phone message left by The Associated Press.Jones' agent, Leigh Steinberg sent out a tweet on Monday in which he wrote that Jones “had felt for some time he had accomplished the mission to turn around the program, and needed a break.”

NEW YORK — The NHL has decided to keep Stephane Quintal in his role as the league's senior vice president of player safety, dropping the interim tag for the former defenseman.Quintal replaced Brendan Shanahan when he left the position in April to become president of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The league said t it interviewed many qualified candidates and decided the player safety department would be “served best under Quintal.”
