4 win re-election to SR School Board

Four members of the Slippery Rock School Board won re-election Tuesday, while one newcomer will join the nine-person board next year.

The only contested race for the board was between in Region 2 between Republican Matthew Pyle and Democratic Vito Pilosi III.

Region 2 includes Prospect and Portersville and Franklin and Muddy Creek townships. The unofficial totals were 826 votes for Pyle and 555 for Pilosi.

Pyle had previously defeated Pilosi for a two-year term on the board in 2013 and again for the Republican nomination in the primary earlier this year, though Pilosi won the Democratic nomination.

Pyle, who lives in Portersville with his family, is a graduate of the school district and has lived there his whole life. He has two children who attend Moraine Elementary.

He said he is happy with the work the board has done in the past two years, including hiring superintendent Alfonso Angelucci.

“My main motivation for being on the board is I wanted to bring integrity back to the district and I feel that we’ve done that with our current superintendent,” he said.

He said he looks forward to continuing to work with the board.

“We’ve got a great team in place. I’m ecstatic. I’m very excited about the next four years,” he said.

In Region 3, Melissa Allen won re-election and newcomer Theresa Pearce will replace board member Karen McDowell, who chose not to run for re-election. Neither seat was contested.

In Region 1, Mark Taylor and Diana Wolak both won re-election unopposed.

All the school directors will serve four-year terms.
