City police investigate Tuesday morning fight
Two Butler men were beaten early Tuesday morning outside a city bar, sending one of them to a hospital.
City Police Capt. David Dalcamo said police think James Raub, 36, and Randolph Dahl, 35, got in a verbal altercation with at least one person inside My Buddy’s bar earlier that night.
Upon leaving the bar shortly before 2 a.m., the two men were confronted on Pillow Street by three men.
Dalcamo said a fight broke out and Raub suffered injuries to his face. Both men were conscious when police arrived, and both declined treatment at first.
Raub was eventually taken to Butler Memorial Hospital and was later flown by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital.
Dahl was not treated for his injuries.
Dahl described the attackers to police as two white men and one black man, but said he did not know who they are, Dalcamo said.
Police are working with the owners of My Buddy’s to get surveillance video of the fight.
Dalcamo said the owners of the bar have been cooperative, and he expects to have the video by Friday.
Police hope to have follow-up interviews with the two victims, but have not been able to do so yet.
Dalcamo said Dahl was to meet with police Tuesday night, but he did not show up.
Police are waiting for Raub to recover to speak with him.
Blaine Smith, Raub’s cousin, said Raub was waiting for treatment at Allegheny General Hospital.
“He’s still in the ICU down there,” she said, “They’re waiting for the swelling to his face to go down so they can operate.”
Smith did not know the details of his injuries other than they were to his head.
