Carolyn M. Phipps, 77, of 5817 Route 8 in Barkeyville died at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at United Community Hospital, Grove City, after a brief illness.

Born in Mars, April 18, 1927, she was a daughter of John Albert and Elsie Morrow Weissert.

She was a graduate of Mars High School and the Butler Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and received a bachelor's degree from Slippery Rock University. In 1989, she retired from the Franklin School District, after 30 years as a school nurse.

Mrs. Phipps was a 54-year resident of Barkeyville and belonged to the Barkeyville United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Paul Bennett Phipps, whom she married Dec. 27, 1949; three children, Doug P. Phipps of Grove City, Carol J. Christie of Harrisville and Sandy S. Berrios of Apex, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A brother, John Weissert of Rochester, N.Y., also survives.

Two sisters preceded her in death.

PHIPPS - Friends of Carolyn M. Phipps, who died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. today at CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev.
