Buffalo budget has no tax hike
BUFFALO TWP — Township residents will not see their property tax rate go up next year.
The township’s 2016 budget, which is $2.1 million, keeps the tax rate at 4.38 mills.
A mill generates $1 tax for every $1,000 of a property’s assessed value.
Township supervisor John Haven, chairman, said supervisors do not intend to raise taxes.
The only big increase in spending next year is for road maintenance, and he said some of the added money is leftover from the current budget.
“We wanted to build that up just in case,” Haven said.
He said the extra money will help road crews get ready for winter maintenance.
Also helping to fund the road department, Haven said, is an increase in liquid fuel funding from the state.
The supervisors will vote on the budget Dec. 9.
The current budget is $2 million with the same tax rate. The 2014 budget of $1.9 million raised property taxes by 1 mill from 3.38 mills to 4.38 mills.
