Police: Pittsburgh woman takes 6 TVs, charges filed
Police accused a woman Friday of taking six televisions and other items from the Walmart in Cranberry Township in a string of thefts.
Cranberry Township police charged Sharlana N. Capan, 28, of Pittsburgh, with five counts of felony retail theft for five alleged incidents at the store on Route 19.
Police said Walmart staff reported a theft that occurred Dec. 1 where a woman placed various merchandise, including two televisions, in her cart. She proceeded to self check-out, scanned her items, but did not pay for them. According to documents, the woman left the store with $631 worth of merchandise and placed it in a white sedan.
Intersection cameras on Route 19 confirmed that the white sedan was near the store on four occasions. The vehicle would stay in Cranberry Township for a short period of time and then leave quickly via Route 19, police said.
Law enforcement in surrounding municipalities were asked to help identify the woman in the initial surveillance footage. According to police, Capan was identified by Moon Township Police Department.
Court documents show that Cranberry Township officers also linked Capan to four other thefts at the Walmart.
Police said Capan was identified leaving the store with $120 worth of merchandise without paying for it on Nov. 28.
On Dec. 4 around 10:21 a.m., police said Capan was seen on surveillance footage with two Vizo televisions in a cart. She passed all points of sale without paying for the $1,396 in merchandise.
Police said Capan was seen again at 2 p.m. that day removing two more televisions from the store without paying for them. Those televisions cost $1,256.
Around 11:45 a.m. on Dec. 5, Capan placed multiple infant-care items in a cart and failed to pay for the $512 worth of merchandise, according to documents.
Police noted in their report that Capan has two prior convictions of retail theft.
As of Saturday, a preliminary hearing for Capan has not been scheduled.
