Paul E. Craig, 84, of Sarver, formerly of Waynesburg, died unexpectedly at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday at Elm Croft Nursing Home in Sarver.

He was born July 18, 1923, in Carmichaels, a son of W. Paul and Dorothy Bennington Craig.

He had lived in Waynesburg for several years prior to moving to the Sarver area 29 years ago.

Mr. Craig was a member of Sarver Free Methodist Church.

During World War II, he was a gunner's mate 3c in the Navy and was awarded the European and American Theater ribbons and the World War II Victory Medal.

Mr. Craig was a member of Sarver VFW and the United Mine Workers of America. He enjoyed playing bingo, dancing and the time he was able to spend with his family.

He retired in 1990 as a superintendent at Bethlehem Steel Energy in Saxonburg after 24 years.

Surviving are three daughters, Mary Melissa, wife of Anthony Carver, of Orange, Va., Paula, wife of Woody Ruffner, of Saxonburg and Sheila, wife of Gary Swisher, of Shinnston, W.Va.; two sons, David Craig of Granttown, W.Va., and Charles Craig, husband of Vicky, of Rivesville, W.Va.; a stepson, Terry Wrubleski of Fairview, W.Va.; a brother, James Craig of Lorain, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

On Jan. 18, 1961, he married Sarah Suzanne "Sue" Kerr. She died April 3, 1998. A grandson, Gary Ely Swisher; and two sisters, Ruth Barnes and Faye Craig, also preceded him in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Lenhart officiating and a grandson, Wilson Paul Ruffner, assisting.
