Slow start dooms Warriors vs. St. Marys
Moniteau's offense got started too late and came up too short Friday night at St. Marys.
The Warriors (0-2) fell behind by three touchdowns in the first three quarters before falling to the Dutchmen, 20-14, in high school football Friday.
"We came to life in the fourth quarter, but for the first three quarters, we were terrible," Moniteau coach Steve Wilson said. "They put nine men in the box defensively and we struggled throwing the football.
"We had to adjust our blocking schemes so we could run on that defense."
Matt Schandelmeier wound up with 18 carries for 115 yards and a pair of fourth-quarter touchdown runs for the Warriors.
But before that, St. Marys quarterback Lucas Wendel had thrown touchdown passes of 25 and 35 yards to Shad Boschert, and Adam Cornelio scored on a 5-yard run to give the Dutchmen (1-1) a 20-0 lead through three quarters.
Moniteau travels to A-C Valley next Friday.
