CRANBERRY TWP — Voters re-elected state Rep. Daryl Metcalfe to an eighth term Tuesday as he easily defeated Democrat Lisa Zucco in the 12th District.

According to unofficial results, Metcalfe won 60 percent of the vote to Zucco’s 38 percent. Metcalfe won each of the 22 polling locations in the district, which encompasses four boroughs and six townships in southern Butler County.

In total, Metcalfe won 12,439 votes to Zucco’s 7,724 votes.

Metcalfe carried Cranberry Township by nearly 1,500 more votes than Zucco across nine polling locations.

He also carried Adams Township by winning 2,636 votes to Zucco’s 1,399 votes in three polling precincts.

Metcalfe, 51, said a “broad and deep” base of support across the district was responsible for his re-election, citing the fact that he talked to about 1,000 supporters at polling locations on Election Day.

“People want me to cut taxes and protect jobs while supporting traditional American values,” Metcalfe said. “And that’s what I ran (the campaign) on.”

Metcalfe described Election Day as “such a blessing and such an encouragement” after talking with so many supporters who helped carry him to a convincing win.

“I got the chance to talk to a lot of great people today and ask them for their support,” he said. “It’s really a blessing to see such solid results come in from my supporters across the 12th District.”

Metcalfe, who is the chairman of the State House Government Committee, has represented the 12th District since 1999.

He faced a tough primary election campaign in May against fellow Republican Gordon Marburger, who waged a write-in campaign after being knocked off the ballot for improperly filing campaign documents.

Metcalfe won 55 percent of the vote in the May primary, one of the toughest primary races he’d faced in several years.

Zucco, a Cranberry resident and a newcomer to politics, won the Democratic primary unopposed in May.

She said Tuesday night that she was proud of her campaign, and thanked the countless numbers of staff and volunteers who helped her.

“We’re disappointed with the results, but I’m really proud of our effort,” she said. “We ran a serious campaign on serious issues.”

She also thanked her husband and her two children for their support.

The 12th District covers Adams, Clinton, Cranberry, Forward, Middlesex and Penn townships as well as Callery, Mars, Seven Fields and Valencia.
