Slater

Albert J. Slater, 81, formerly of Bullcreek Road, died Friday at Shelbourne Assisted Living on Dinnerbell Road.

Born July 11, 1926, in North Oakland, he was a son of Charles and Mary Neff Slater.

Mr. Slater was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II.

He retired as a crane operator at Butler Armco in 1992 after 41 years.

He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church and the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

He liked to hunt and was a member of Butler City Hunting and Fishing Club. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and was the past president of Gold Wing Road Riders Association Chapter D.

Surviving are four sons and their wives, David A. and Deborah Slater, Dennis E. and Wendy Slater, Donald J. and Cindy Slater and Steven M. and Sue Slater, all of Butler; a brother, Ray Slater of Butler; a sister, Elvie Leitem of Chicora; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His wife, Janet L. Barnhart Slater, who he married Sept. 8, 1948, died Feb. 28, 2001. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Slater, and two sisters, Rose Patten and Oley Slater.

Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N.
