Acquaviva

Joseph P. Acquaviva, 91, of Butler passed away Wednesday at Butler Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Joe was born in Butler, April 30, 1919, and was the son of the late Carlo and Louisa DeFoggie Acquaviva.

He attended Butler High School and was active in the sports programs. Joe stood out as a varsity football player and swimmer.

On Nov. 13, 1940, Joe married Mary T. Glaviano, and they would have been married 70 years.

Joe was employed at Butler Armco for 40 years, where he worked in the silicon department. He retired in 1980.

Upon retirement, he loved to golf and spent many a day golfing with his brothers and friends. He taught his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to golf at a very early age.

Joe was a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, where he was a sacristan. He also was a member of The 55 and Alive and the Bereavement Group at the church, and he was a long standing member of the Sons of Italy.

Surviving are his wife, Mary T. Glaviano Acquaviva; two sons, Joseph C. Acquaviva of Ogunquit, Maine, and Richard A. Acquaviva and his wife, Joyce, of Cranberry Township; one brother, Leonard Acquaviva and his wife, Marie, of Butler; one sister, Rose Brough of Butler; two sisters-in-law, Josephine Acquaviva of Butler and Tresa Helmintoller of Denver, Colo.; five grandchildren, Joseph and his wife, Doris, of Gibsonia, Richard and his wife, Sue, of Cranberry Township, Lisa of Cranberry Township, Steven and his wife, Corie, of Algonquin, Ill., and Dean and his wife, Danielle, of Southington, Conn.; and nine great-grandchildren, Tyson, Joseph, Jeffrey, Alycia, Britney, Anthony, Alyson, Emily and Carson. Also several nieces, nephews and cousins survive.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Patrick, Carl Jr. and Donald; two sisters, Ann Mahalko and Philomena Beck; and a great-grandchild, Angel.

<B>ACQUAVIVA</B> — Friends of Joseph P. Acquaviva, who died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, will be received at the <B>Martin Funeral Home</B>, 429 Center Ave., Butler, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Saturday with Father James Dolan, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Michael Cemetery.The Bereavement Group of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church will meet at the funeral home at 3 p.m. today to conduct a scriptural wake service.Information also is available at www.martinfh.net.
