As expected, prices of most items have increased in the past decade.
For example, regular gasoline cost $1.29 per gallon in 2000 while it is $2.69 per gallon now.
However, some prices have not changed. Women's Levi blue jeans at J.C. Penney cost $39.99 in 2000, but are lower now at $34.99.
Here is a look by the Butler Eagle at the cost of some everyday items during the first week of 2000, and the price of those items today:
• First-class postage stamp — 33 cents in 2000, 44 cents now.
• One gallon of 2 percent milk — $2.54 at Shop N Save in 2000, $3.64 at Giant Eagle now.
• One pound of 80 percent lean ground beef — $2.99 at Shop N Save in 2000, $3.39 at Giant Eagle now.
• A 2-liter bottle of Coke — $1.38 at Shop N Save in 2000, $1.89 at Giant Eagle now.
• Kellogg's Corn Flakes Cereal, 24-ounce size — $3.49 at Giant Eagle in 2000, $3.29 for an 18-ounce box now. A 24-ounce box is no longer available.
• Cheese pizza at Pizza Hut — $9.99 for a 16-inch pie in 2000, $9.99 for a 14-inch pie now. A 16-inch pizza is no longer on the menu.
• Men's Nike walking tennis shoes at J.C. Penney — $65 in 2000, $65 now.
• School lunch at elementary school in the Butler School District — $1.25 in 2000, $1.40 now.
• Cost of 1-credit tuition hour of class at Butler County Community College — $57 in 2000, $79 now.
• Cost of 1-credit tuition hour of class at Slippery Rock University — $150 in 2000, $171 now.
• Movie ticket in the evening at Regal Cinemas — $6.75 in 2000, $9 now.
• Monthly parking pass for garage parking in Butler — $25 in 2000, $40 now.
• One pack of Marlboro cigarettes — $2.48 state minimum at Sheetz in 2000, $5.50 state minimum at Sheetz today.
