Hanratty on college Hall ballot

Hanratty

DALLAS — Terry Hanratty, former Butler High, Notre Dame and Steelers quarterback, is one of 79 players and nine coaches on the 2011 College Football Hall of Fame ballot that was released Monday.

Hanratty was a consensus first-team All-American in 1968 and finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting in 1968, sixth in 1966 — when he led the Fighting Irish to the national championship — and ninth in 1967.

He also won the Sammy Baugh Trophy, given to the top college passer, in 1967.

The Steelers selected Hanratty in the second round of the 1969 draft. He was a member of the team’s first two Super Bowl squads and wore the Black and Gold until 1975.

Hanratty is a member of the Butler County Sports Hall of Fame, the Butler School District Athletic Hall of Fame and is a recipient of the Butler Football Hometown Heroes Award.

Also on the ballot are Pitt running back Paul Martha, and offensive guard Steve Wisniewski and running back D.J. Dozier of Penn State.
