Some gift suggestions for Santa

Dear Santa,

Your time has arrived again. It seems to come around faster every year.

Anyway, please take of these gift requests, if you can squeeze them in:

To GEORGE MIHALIK, Slippery Rock University football coach: An eligible Quindell Dean for the PSAC Championship Game. I know this is after the fact, Santa, but it could have altered the course of his team’s postseason.

To the PITTSBURGH PENGUINS: Health — not that it seems to matter in the standings.

To BRIAN MINTO, professional boxer — One more world title shot.

To KEVIN ZITZMAN, Eagle copy desk — Better bowling scores than his brother.

To MIKE KILROY, Eagle staff writer — More wins than losses for the Buffalo Bills. A Christmas miracle may be required.

To ED CONTO, Karns City football coach — Respect throughout Western Pennsylvania as one of its most consistent football programs.

To BOB CUPP, Butler bowling coach — A state title to match his predecessor.

To OLIVIA BRESNAHAN, Butler graduate and Duquesne University basketball player — Eligibility. Good job, Santa, I see you came through on this one.

To the PITTSBURGH STEELERS — Do-overs against the Tennessee Titans, Minnesota Vikings and Oakland Raiders.

To CLINT HURDLE, Pirates manager — A Francisco Liriano-like season out of Edison Volquez.

To DAVE SYLVESTER, Seneca Valley girls soccer coach — A goal in regulation, or overtime, in the state semifinals.

To TOM HENSCHEL, Cabot resident — Safe travels and good health for another decade of Super Bowls.

To the BUTLER BLUESOX — A Prospect League playoff berth.

To ROGER GOODELL, NFL commissioner — Forfeiture of all passports. Just keep the game here.

To MATT CLEMENT, Butler boys basketball coach: Home crowds the size of the heart of his team.

To DARLENE, my wife — Less time on the job for her husband.

To SENECA VALLEY ATHLETICS — A football win over rival North Allegheny, a basketball trip to the WPIAL semifinals, another shot at a WPIAL baseball title ... that’s right, Santa, same thing you granted them last year.

To BUTLER FOOTBALL — Coaching tenure, sustained success ... and about 15 fewer concussions.

To the CONSOL ENERGY CENTER — A steady stream of Butler County teams playing for their respective Penguins Cups.

To DEREK PYDA, Eagle staff writer — A dozen wins for the Steelers and University of Pittsburgh football teams. Uh, that’s a dozen each, Santa, not combined.

To the SPORTS WORLD EVERYWHERE — The building of memorable moments fueled by competitive fire and sportsmanlike respect for the opposition.

Merry Christmas!
