National Park trail vandalized

GLEN JEAN, W.Va. — The National Park Service is looking for those responsible for spray painting graffiti along the New River Gorge National River in southern West Virginia.

The Park Service said the vandalism occurred at a scenic overlook on the Long Point Trail in Fayette County. Green and orange paint was used to scrawl initials and a heart on rocks along the 1.6-mile trail.

The nearly 8-foot-by-2-foot graffiti contains the inscription “AW (heart) TK.”

Acting park Superintendent Jeff West calls the graffiti “disheartening.”

Punishment could be up to six months in prison and a $5,000 fine upon conviction.
