Britain's Prince William and Kate, Princess of Wales, arrive at Boston Logan International Airport Wednesday in Boston. The Prince and Princess of Wales are making their first overseas trip since the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September. The Boston Globe via AP

The first overseas trip by the Prince and Princess of Wales since the death of Queen Elizabeth II began Wednesday, an occasion to show the world as much about who they are not as who they are.

With their three-day visit to Boston, focused on Prince William’s initiative to find the environmental entrepreneurs of a new generation, supplemented with trips to an anti-poverty program, child development researchers and local flood defenses, the couple hope to demonstrate that they aren’t the last remnants of a dying institution. Instead, Americans will see the younger face of a monarchy that is tackling important issues as it seeks to remain relevant in modern, multicultural Britain.

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker greeted the couple at Boston Logan International Airport, where they arrived aboard a commercial British Airways flight. From there, they headed to a formal welcome at City Hall. Later, they planned to attend a Boston Celtics basketball game.

Upon landing, William thanked local residents “for their many tributes paid to the late queen,” noting that his grandmother recalled her 1976 bicentennial visit to Boston “with great fondness.”

The visit comes less than three months after the death of Elizabeth, whose personal popularity dampened criticism of the crown during her 70-year reign. King Charles III, William’s father, has made clear that his will be a slimmed-down monarchy, with less pomp and ceremony than its predecessors.

The trip got off to a rocky start when a lady in waiting to the late Queen Elizabeth apologized and resigned over allegations that she asked a prominent Black advocate for survivors of domestic abuse where she “really came from,” despite her insistence she was a British national.

Britain’s Press Association and a number of other media outlets in Britain identified the woman who made the remarks as Lady Susan Hussey, who served the monarch for more than 60 years. She is also a godmother to the Prince of Wales.

Retired NFL star Terrell Owens said a fight caught on camera in which he punched a man in a CVS parking lot was the result of an “aggressor” threatening him and a fan he was talking to at the California store.

Owens, 48, told the Associated Press in a statement that he acted in self-defense Saturday night when the man “made offensive gestures and threatening statements” to him and a fan who approached Owens.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver said the man approached him and the fan in the store, and in an attempt to de-escalate the situation, he walked outside, where the man followed.

“The aggressor continued threatening the fan just as he did in the store,” Owens told the AP. “Once again, attempting to diffuse the ongoing situation, I placed myself between the fan and the aggressor. I made verbal demands asking the aggressor to stop his threatening behavior.”

Owens said the man “swung at me first” before he “felt obligated to prevent the aggressor from becoming more violent.”

TMZ first reported the fight at the CVS in Inglewood and published a witness’ video.

NEW YORK — This season of “Saturday Night Live” will wind down with a trip down memory lane as former cast members Steve Martin and Martin Short co-host.

Dec. 10 will be Martin’s 16th time as host and Martin’s third, after the duo starred together in Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.”

Fresh from netting seven Grammy nominations, country rocker Brandi Carlile is booked as the musical guest.

Martin’s return to the 30 Rockefeller soundstage follows his two guest appearances earlier this year. He and Martin have made numerous cameos over the years.

This Saturday, Emmy winner Keke Palmer hosts, with musical guest SZA.

“Elvis” star Austin Butler will host the final episode of the year, on Dec. 17. Yeah Yeah Yeahs are booked as musical guest on that date.

The only star to host “SNL” more than Martin is Alec Baldwin, who’s had the role 17 times.
