SLIPPERY ROCK — A number of businesses are banding together to honor two deceased residents while raising money for charities.
Proceeds from the inaugural Mary Everett & Dale Barkley Memorial Car Show will benefit the Center for Organ Recovery & Education, Trucker Charity and the Toys for Tots Foundation.
The event, which is open to any kind of vehicle, will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 31 at NAPA Auto Parts, Campbell Bus Lines and First National Bank on Route 173 in Slippery Rock.
There will be door prizes from businesses, music, and trophies. Judging will be done by both participants and attendees.

GROVE CITY — Grove City Medical Center, in cooperation with Central Blood Bank, is holding a community blood drive from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 20 in the hospital's education center.Donors must be at least 17 years old and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds. The need for blood rises significantly during the summer season, so there is an especially critical need for donations at this time of year. Most medications are acceptable, and blood donations can be made every 56 days.Donors may preregister for the drive by calling the medical center's public relations department at 724-450-7191. Additionally, walk-ins are welcome on the day of the drive.
SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue Team will have an Odds and Ends Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 31 at fire hall at 162 Elm St. For information or to order a table call 724-794-3817.
