Reported stolen car involved in multiple-vehicle crash

A car that police said was reported stolen was involved in a multiple-vehicle crash with injuries Friday at a busy intersection in Middlesex Township.

At 11:30 a.m., a female was driving the stolen car south on Route 8 when she ran a red light at the intersection of Route 228 West and struck a vehicle, which was turning left from Route 228 to Route 8 North, in the middle of the intersection, said Middlesex Township Police Sgt. Randy Davison.

The stolen car continued south on Route 8 striking five more vehicles in the intersection, Davison said.

The intersection was closed for about two hours while the damaged vehicles were removed. The accident is under investigation.

“We just started our investigation,“ Davison said Saturday. The stolen car was not being pursued by police prior to the crash, he added.

The driver of the stolen car was injured, but Davison said he does not know the extent of the injuries. Some of the people in the other vehicles were injured and at least one other person was taken to a hospital, but none of those injuries are life threatening, he said.

He said the car was reported stolen from Butler. Butler City police could not be reached for comment.

Also responding to the crash was Penn and Adams township police and fire fighters from the the Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company and Adams Area Fire District from Butler County and the Richland Township Fire Department from Allegheny County.
