Friend

Clyde R. Friend, 85, of South Buffalo Township, Armstrong County, passed away peacefully at 5 a.m. Monday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Butler.

Clyde was born in Titusville, June 24, 1926, and grew up in Clairton. He was the son of the late Iris (Mook) and Clyde L. Friend.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

After the war, he worked 25 years as a nurse's aide at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Butler, now VA Butler Healthcare, retiring in 1971.

He was a member of the Reformed United Presbyterian Church in North Buffalo Township, Armstrong County. Clyde was a member of the National Active & Retired Federal Employees, the Mystic 52 Magician's Club in Pittsburgh and the Blind & Veterans Association. Clyde volunteered for many years with the Boy Scouts

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Myrtle (Keener) Friend; his five children, Raymond (Peggy) Friend of Chicora, Saundra (Bob) Isovitsch of Butler, Ronald (Michelle) Friend of Winter Springs, Fla., Cynthia Crytzer of Mercer and Rodney (Philippa) Friend of Buffalo Township. He also is survived by his 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and his sister, Elizabeth Friend-Kifer, of Irwin.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Roger Friend.

<B>FRIEND</B> — Family and friends of Clyde R. Friend, who died Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in <B>Redmond Funeral Home</B>, 524 High St., Freeport. A funeral service will be in the funeral home at 10 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Mark Davis of the Slate Lick United Presbyterian Church officiating.
