Velma Helen Horstman Perdian, 83, of Hermitage died at 5 a.m. Tuesday at the John XXIII Home, Hermitage.

Born Sept. 1, 1924, in Herman, she was a daughter of Vincent and Regina Birckbichler Horstman.

She attended the Hall Shaft Grade School, graduated from Stoneboro High School in 1942, and had lived at 2789 Morefield Road in Hermitage since 1950.

During World War II, she worked for the Carnegie Steel Corp. Ordinance Plant in Farrell, where she met her husband.

Mrs. Perdian later worked at Packard Electric in Warren, Ohio, and retired from the Hermitage School District in 1984, as a cafeteria worker.

She was a member of St. Adalbert Church of Farrell, the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild, Rosary Society and the St. Adalbert's Prayer Group of the church.

She was a longtime member of the Lucky Thirteen Card Club and the former Women's Auxiliary of the Western Reserve.

Surviving are her husband, Alphonse Bernard Perdian, whom she married Oct. 21, 1944, at the St. Columbkille Church, Stoneboro; three sons, Leslie F. of Spavinaw, Okla., Rick of Kusnacht, Switzerland, and Bernard L. of Hermitage; three grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; and a sister, Leota F. Horstman of Mercer.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Clemens V. Jr. and George E. Horstman; and her sisters, Regina C. Uber and Dorothy Van Zanten.
