Colorado’s MacIntyre AP Coach of YearBOULDER, Colo. — Colorado’s Mike MacIntyre was selected The Associated Press college football Coach of the Year after leading the Buffaloes to a 10-3 record and their first bowl game since 2007.MacIntyre received 109 points and 25 first-place votes from the AP college football poll panel, while Penn State’s James Franklin was second with 98 and 16.
Pats claim Floyd from waiver wireFOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The New England Patriots claimed wide receiver Michael Floyd off waivers one day after he was released by the Arizona Cardinals.Floyd, Arizona’s first-round draft pick in 2012, was released by the team two days after he was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and failure to obey a police officer.Floyd had 33 catches for 446 yards and four touchdowns with the Cardinals this season.
Herrera, Phillies agree on extensionPHILADELPHIA — Odubel Herrera and the Philadelphia Phillies agreed to a $30.5 million, five-year contract.The deal keeps the All-Star center fielder under the Phillies’ control through 2023. Herrera has been the most consistent player on a rebuilding team the past two seasons.Herrera was an NL All-Star this year in his second season in the major leagues. He batted .286 with 15 homers, 87 runs and 25 stolen bases.
Rockies sign Dunn for bullpen helpDENVER — The Colorado Rockies shored up their shaky bullpen by agreeing to a $19 million, three-year contract with reliever Mike Dunn.Colorado desperately needed bullpen help after blowing 28 saves last season. The 31-year-old left-hander went 6-1 with a 3.40 ERA in 51 appearances for the Miami Marlins last season.
No. 3 Baylor wins by record marginWACO, Texas — In the biggest Division I women’s basketball rout ever, No. 3 Baylor overwhelmed Winthrop 140-32.The 108-point margin of victory surpassed the 102 set by Grambling when it beat Jarvis Christian College 139-37 in 1986.Baylor (11-1) led 77-18 at halftime and outscored the Eagles 29-0 in the fourth quarter.Baylor coach Kim Mulkey substituted freely throughout the game and no one played more than 21 minutes. Leading scorer Alexis Jones, who’s had knee trouble, sat out for the second straight game.
