Janet E. Dempster Jordan

Janet E. Dempster Jordan, 70, of South Buffalo Township, Armstrong County, passed away unexpectedly at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, while in the company of family members.

Janet was born in Kittanning, Aug. 2, 1941, the daughter of the late Florence (Smith) and J. Ray Wagner.

She was a graduate of Kittanning High School and Allegheny Valley Hospital School of Nursing.

Janet was very proud of her 1822 Colonial Dempster House on High Street, which she and her husband, Ray, restored over 30 years, saving many of the 175 year-old architectural details.

A longtime nurse at Allegheny Valley Hospital, she retired in 2003 after 35 years. She also was a part-time insurance agent for her first husband, C. Ray Dempster, at the Dempster Insurance Agency in Natrona Heights until his retirement.

Janet was an active member of the Freeport United Presbyterian Church, where she was a deacon and elder. She also sang in the choir.

She loved playing the piano and gardening and enjoying her retirement with her husband, Barry Jordan.

She is survived by her husband, Barry Jordan; two sons, Brant L. Dempster of Butler and Mark A. Dempster of Freeport; a grandson, Kyle M. Dempster of Cabot; a stepdaughter, Andrea L. (Robert) Schaffer and a step-grandson, Kaleb R. Schaffer, all of Natrona Heights; a stepson, Christopher Jordan of London; a sister, Jean (Timothy) Buhite of Kittanning; a brother, Robert Wagner of Carlisle; and Brant’s friend, Mary Myers and her two daughters, Cheyenne and Sioux of Sarver.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, C. Ray Dempster, who passed in 2003.

JORDAN — Family and friends of Janet E. Dempster Jordan, who died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the

Redmond Funeral Home,

524 High St., Freeport. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Freeport United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Paige L.D. Creach officiating.
